Cyclists' plea to ride along city street
Cyclists are calling on the city council to let them ride
down a Norwich thoroughfare. Next week, members of the Green Party will ask
Norwich City Council to open London Street to cyclists outside core hours to
bring it in line with Gentleman's Walk. It is hoped the road will be used
by cyclists 5pm to 10am. Green councillor Rupert Read pictured, who will ask the
question at Tuesday's full council meeting, said: "We're looking for some with
pedestrians during the daytime."
Richard Bearman, oft Norwich Cycling Campaign, said: "The
consistency will make it easier for people to know where cycling is and is not
permitted and it is an important link road for cyclists from the City Hall and
the cathedral."
Bike Week starts next month, from June 14 to June 22.
The events include rides to Reepham and Wymondham.
