Dear Party Leader,

We are writing to ask if your party will support our campaign targets for 2008.  Norwich is desperately in need of measures to increase cycling, as a means to reduce pollution and car use.  This will be good for the economy of the city, promote the health both of its citizens and those visiting the city.

We need to encourage cycling for work and pleasure, with special attention to young people. Youngsters are increasingly prone to obesity and all the risks that this brings, and cycling can help to avoid these problems.  As a campaign group with around 200 members, our resources are limited, and statutory bodies like the city and county councils hold the real power and resources to make the necessary changes.

There have been some positive developments from the use of the Chapelfield Section 106 money, improvements to Pottergate and around Chapelfield, and increased cycle parking in the city centre. The additional ₤17,000 included in the City council budget for 2008/09 is also welcome.

Our selected Campaigning targets for 2008 are as follows

1. Campaign against HGVs using any bus & cycle lanes, especially Newmarket Road
2. Campaign for increase in number of Advance Stop Lines at junctions
3. Campaign for more secure cycle parking in schools
4. Campaign for improvements in signage to National Cycle Network route through city
5. Campaign for more high quality crossing points of the Inner Ring Road.

These can be found on our website www.norwichcyclingcampaign.org.  Please would you let us know which of the measures you support so that we can share this information with our members and publish it on our website.

Also we would like to know of any other pro-cycling measures in your party's policies.  We hope to give positive publicity to those parties supporting cycling, and identify those which do not see an increase in cycling as a priority for Norwich.

We look forward to your reply,

Yours sincerely
