Dear Sirs,
I visited the Norwich Playhouse last week to inspect the plans for the proposed
development of the St. Georges Street area, and am writing to say how much I
believe that it will enhance the area - and these improvements are long overdue.
However, I must take issue with the proposal for traffic to turn right out of
Colegate. This is already a hazardous area for cyclists with the traffic exiting
from Fishergate, making it necessary to ride wide at this junction in order to
be seen, and noticed, by motorists using this route. A right turn from Colegate
would increase the the danger to cyclists using the bus/cycle route through this
section of Magdalen Street. It is not far for a motorist to travel north to the
inner ring road; and the left turn at Colegate, then right at St. Saviours Lane
into Fishergate would not increase mileage by a very great deal to take one into
an easterly and southerly direction from Colegate.
The exit from Elm Hill where a right turn is also proposed will make little
difference, as anyone who has ever sat "in the Glasshouse will testify - this
already happens frequently!
I would also add, in passing,, how great it is to have Magdalen Street closed to
some through traffic at the present time. It is a joy to ride through and I'm
making the most of it .
Yours truly,.
