Norwich once again embraced the joy of streets where children can play free of the dangers of through traffic. Matt White of Car-Free Norwich reports on an inspiring day
“This year’s Car-Free Day 2023 saw six Norwich roads closed to traffic and opened up to communities: with games, face-painting, roller-skating, three-legged races and general delightfulness.

“Huge thanks to the residents of Havelock Road, Helena Road, Highland Avenue, Lindley Street, Tillett Road and Vincent Road, for all their efforts in creating a special and memorable day, and brilliantly showing how our streets could be put to much better – and friendlier! – use than being primarily car storage zones.

“If you’re inspired to get involved next year – or to host some play street sessions in the meantime – feel free to drop any questions to carfreenorwich@gmail.com. And get talking about it to your neighbours. It’s never too early to start sowing some community action seeds!”
